businesses fail to audit e-waste, fuelling illegal exports

The Environment Investigation Agency (EIA) says businesses are fuelling the illegal export of e-waste to developing countries by failing to audit recycled computer equipment appropriately. It reveals how criminals are able to purchase e-waste from "less scrupulous" computer recycling companies, resulting in old IT equipment being sold on the black market instead of being recycled in compliance with the law. The EIA needs to recognise that businesses need help to deal with a sector which is evidently conspiring against them.
