mps: recycling can help overcome rare metal shortages

MPs are calling for UK companies to increase their efforts to reuse rare elements and raw materials from Electronic and Electrical (E&E) end-of-life equipment. Despite claims that the UK is recycling around 90 per cent of its rare metal waste by weight and recovering substantial quantities of raw materials, the Science and Technology committee believes that businesses can do more. WEEE Systems is facilitating this opportunity through its Materials Transformation Ecosystem that allows leading organisations to recycle its entire E&E infrastructure and equipment and add to the recovered materials pile. It is positive to see that the UK is recycling 90% of its rare metal waste, but there needs to be a stronger call for all strategic metals to be recovered, increase the percentages further and allow everything that the UK is stockpiling to be recycled.
