compliance scheme battles 'at root' of illegal weee exports

A leading protagonist in the recycling field claims that the large number of producer compliance schemes active in the UK for waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) is the root cause of the illegal e-waste scandals. The UK has 36 of these producer compliance schemes, more than any other EU country. As a result, the different schemes attempt to undercut each other creating a highly competitive and hostile market, which is proving counter-productive.
