u.s. e-waste bill to boost recycling and ban exports
US Senator Sherrod Brown is calling for legislation that will promote the domestic recycling of e-waste and severely reduce its exportation to developing countries. The bill is currently being backed by leading organisations, including HP, Dell, Apple and Samsung at a time when it is estimated that America generates on average over 2.8 million tonnes of e-waste a year.
However, while WEEE Systems hopes that there will be a increase in global awareness, WEEE Systems believes that it will take more than legislation to bring about effective change, and the e-waste sector can only benefit and effectively facilitate the required change through an innovative material transformation ecosystem that not only safely and securely disposes of end-of-life equipment, but also creates revenue opportunities that can repurpose and recreate the raw materials and extend its life beyond the purpose in which it was originally intended.
