transport committee opens inquiry into cable thefts on the railway


The Transport Committee has opened an inquiry into cable thefts on the railway.  The Committee is particularly interested in the impact of these thefts on passengers and rail services as well as discussing measures to combat cable theft. The witnesses include senior representatives from Network Rail, Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC), British Metals Recycling Association and British Transport Police.

WEEE Systems supports the Transport Committee’s dedication to raising awareness of the growing problem and looking to tackle the theft. However, without leading and responsible organisations doing more to maximise the precious metals available through the demanufacturing process, there will never be a reduced need or demand for the materials that these thieves steal.
